Kaberamaido Man Arrested for Locking Out Head Teacher

The Police in Kaberamaido District have arrested a man who locked out the newly transferred headteacher to Okille Primary School. Noel Ongalo a resident of Asana village in Okille Sub County was arrested on Wednesday at Kaberamaido District Headquarters where he had gone to deliver a petition against the new headteacher.

Ongalo, with the help of some parents, locked the office of the headteacher, Catherine Annet Eunyu on Monday. Ongalo faults Eunyu for misconduct including absenteeism, mismanagement of UPE funds, and arrogance.

“We were told that the new headteacher has failed learners in schools where she has worked. We were also told that she is very arrogant to both her staff and parents. How do we manage to work with that kind of a person?”, he said while being led out of the district by the police.

But William Etenu, the chairperson of Okille School Management Committee says he is surprised by the conduct of Ongalo.

“First of all, he is not a parent in this school, and secondly, he never shared his concerns with us. Why would he want to take the law into his hands?”, he wondered.

The Kaberamaido District Education Officer, Richard Eliebu says he handed Ongalo to the Police because he was sabotaging government programs. He said that pupils have not been learning in the school since Monday because Ongalo was inciting parents to protest against the headteacher.

Okille Primary School has an enrolment of above 600 children as per 2020 statistics.

When contacted, the East Kyoga Regional Police Spokesman, Oscar Ageca said that his office had not yet received the information about the police officers who arrested Ongalo.

Eunyu, who was supposed to report by Tuesday has proceeded to her village in Obiyai.
