Hon. Betty Amongi, the Minister of Gender, Labour, and Social Development, has appointed Patrick Ayota as the new Managing Director of the National Social Security Fund (NSSF). The announcement comes via a statement signed by Dr. Peter Kimbowa, the Chairman of NSSF’s Board of Directors. Ayota’s appointment is set for a five-year term, effective from August 18, 2023.

The decision to appoint Ayota is in line with the NSSF Board of Directors’ recommendation to the Minister, following the provisions of Sections 39 and 40 of the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) Act, as amended.

Patrick Ayota brings extensive experience to his new role. Over the past 8 months, he has successfully held the position of Acting Managing Director, ensuring the Fund’s stability through challenging times. Additionally, he has held the positions of Deputy Managing Director since December 2017 and Chief Financial Officer since July 2011.

The Board has expressed confidence in Ayota’s ability to lead the Fund forward, especially given the evolving legislative changes that require the NSSF to play a pivotal role in expanding social security coverage to all citizens of Uganda.

Patrick Ayota takes over from Richard Byarugaba, who has been in charge since 2010 and has been facing challenges during his tenure. This appointment marks a significant transition in the leadership of NSSF, as Ayota assumes his role to guide the organization in fulfilling its critical role in Uganda’s social security landscape.
