Mob Beating Suspected Murderer in Fort Portal City

URN:A mob in Rwenkuba ward in North Division of Fort Portal on Wednesday killed and burnt to ashes one person suspected to be behind the killing and stealing of a motorcycle from a boda boda rider in the area and dumping his body in Kibale National park on Sunday.

The enraged mob blocked Fort portal – Bundibugyo road at Rwenkuba – Kyaruhazi – Kiguma road junction, targeted vehicle no UAS 786W belonging to the North division mayor that was transferring the suspect to police, smashed the car windows, forced the suspect out of the car before killing him and burning his body to ashes.

Locals in Karago Town council say that last week, the lynched man and others still at large hired Kwehayo Richard, a boda boda cyclist who was at Bukuku stage before he was murdered, his body dumped in Sebitoli in Kibaale national park and his boda boda taken.

ASP Vincent Twesige the Rwenzori west police spokesperson identified the deceased as John Barozi aka Young a resident of karago town council in North division Fort Portal.

ASP Twesige condemned the mob justice says investigations are going on to ascertain the facts on matter.

Joseph Mashuhuko, mayor North Division who led the operation that arrested the suspect told Uganda Radio Network that intelligence reports from locals tipped them that Young, who was wanted by security on suspicion of last week’s boda boda murder was hiding in one of the rentals in Kitaka Zone North Division where he was arrested from.

According to Mashuhuko, after arresting young, he confessed to have been behind last week’s murder and many other murders which angered residents who followed him to Rwenkuba where he was taking security to recover the gun he used to kill Richard Kwehayo on Sunday.

Tukugize Jonathan, the brother of the deceased and the owner of the rental where Young was arrested, says that he has been living with the brother since early this month following his release from Katojo government prison.
