Three Policemen in Trouble as 10 Suspects Escape from Custody in Rukungiri

Rukungiri: Elly Maate, the police spokesperson for Kigezi region says that suspects in the male detention made a loud repeated alarm claiming that one of them had collapsed and needed urgent attention, duping Special Police Constable Christopher Mujurizi who opened the door to check and was overpowered.

Three police officers attached to Rukungiri police station in Rukungiri district are in trouble following the escape of 10 dangerous suspects from the detention.
They are number Sergeant Boniface Muhozi, Police Constable Wilson Masereka who are detained and Police Constable number Reuben Tumwesigye who is on the run.
The suspects escaped in the early hours of Friday morning at around 04:28AM.
The suspects who escaped are Davis Ampeire who is accused of aggravated defilement, Amos Mwesigwa accused of causing death by rash and negligence, Allan Byamugisha Allan, Sam Davis Niwagaba, Abert Mubangizi all on charges of alleged theft and Adam Kakuru accused ofshop breaking and theft.
Others are Peter Arinda, Stuart Akampamya , Andrew Akankwasa all on charges of alleged threatening violence, and Davis Niwagaba accused of assault.
A police officer attached to Rukungiri police station revealed to our reporter on condition of anonymity that by the time the suspects escaped, Muhozi was supposed to be on duty as the officer in-charge of the counter, and Tumwesigye and Masereka as the station night guards were off for unknown reasons.

Maate says that the alarm attracted Special Police Constable Christopher Mujurizi who opened the door to check what had happened. But in the process, the suspects grabbed and overpowered him and took off.
By the time other police officers at the counter rushed to help Mujurizi to close the door, 10 of the suspects had managed to escape. Maate says that Muhoozi and Masereka are being held and will face charges of being Absent from the Station without official Leave and neglect of duty.
He also says that efforts to trace and arrest Tumwesigye are ongoing.
Maate also calls upon members of the public to help police in tracing the suspects so that they are re-arrested and charged accordingly. Via URN
