One Person Hacked To Death During Christmas Celebrations In Bukedea

One person was hacked to death during Christmas celebrations in Bukedea District, according to the Police in East Kyoga.

Oscar Gregg Ageca, the East Kyoga Regional Police Spokesman identified the deceased who was hacked to death as Francis Opolot, 50, a resident of Akunyuko Village in Kachumbala Sub County.

The other, Sam Isek was killed in an accident where a motorcycle Registration No. UAW 185X overturned in Kolir Trading Centre.

Ageca says that unknown assailants armed with machetes attacked Opolot while he was seated in his compound. The assailants reportedly cut Opolot on the back, neck and the jaw with a panga before disappearing.  He said Opolot dies in the morning on December 26th at Mbale Regional Referral Hospital.

“Police in Bukedea visited the scene under leadership of the DPC together with crime intelligence, detectives and other officers attached to CPS Bukedea,” said Ageca.

Geoffrey Okiswa, the Resident District Commissioner in Bukedea says they have arrested one person, identified as Ojakol to help with the Police investigations. Ojakol, a brother to the deceased was picked up at his home after the Police sniffer dog led detectives to his house.

According to the Police, Christmas celebrations in Teso Sub Region were calm with minor accidents in different places.  Another person also perished in Bukedea after being involved in a boda boda accident.
