UPDF FC Unveils Ssenyondo As New Head Coach

Brian Ssenyondo is the new head coach of Uganda People’s Defense Forces-UPDF FC. The Club Chief Executive Officer-CEO, Ashraf Miiro unveiled the new coach, saying that they had inked a two year’s deal.
“We are humbled to present Brian Ssenyondo as the UPDF Football Club head coach for a duration of two years,” Miiro stated. Ssenyondo replaces Kefa Kisaala who parted ways with the military team over poor performance during the 2020/21 Uganda Premier league season. Kisaala spent only one season with UPDF having joined the Club at the beginning of last season. Prior to his sacking, the club leadership the former Uganda Cranes player for four games after his team suffered a 5-1 loss to Wakiso Giants.
Ssenyondo will have to build from where Kisaala left the club and organize a squad for the next season. Ssenyondo has been a free agent since he left Mbarara City in March this year. UPDF joined top-flight football last season from the FUFA Big league. During their debut in the Uganda Premier League, UPDF finished eighth with 37 points and 27 games.
The army team won 11 games, drew four and lost 12 games. The local football governing body cut short the premier league because of the 42 days’ nationwide lockdown announced by the President to contain the spread of the second wave of COVID-19.
Consequently, FUFA declared Express FC champions of Uganda Premier Football League for the 2020/21 season.
